Israel's Peace and Security
Each year AJC New Jersey brings in experts, educators and diplomats to talk to and educate the community about Israel. Recently, Ambassador Ido Aharoni, the Israeli Consul General in New York, spoke at the AJC Central Annual Dinner on rebranding Israel as a nation and Fern Oppenheim, co-founder of Brand Israel Group, spoke at an AJC New Jersey Parlor & Policy meeting about her recently completed study on how Israel is viewed by Americans.
AJC New Jersey has created a concise and compelling PowerPoint presentation entitled "Understanding Israel” for Christian and Jewish audiences. We recruit non-Jewish New Jersey leaders for Project Interchange Seminars, held in Israel, which expose influential decision makers from government, ethnic and religious communities, as well as business and industry, to the complexities of Israel and the Middle East.
Our advocacy for Israel has several milestones including: the establishment of the NJ-Israel Commission by former New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine and, at a Federal level, the approval for continued U.S. support of the Israeli Iron Dome Defense System.
In October of 2011, AJC Metro worked with the MetroWest Jewish Community Relations Council to bring together the members of 42 Jewish Synagogues for the “Step Up For Israel” day-long conference. Experts from top advocacy organizations spoke about Israel and led “hands on” interactive sessions on how to engage journalists, politicians, ethnic and religious leaders.
AJC NJ Middle East Task Force
In 2012, AJC New Jersey launched a Middle East Task Force whose mandate is to plan and implement programming, advocacy, coalition work and media activity throughout New Jersey related to and promoting AJC’s policies in the Middle East.
