AJC New Jersey was a founding member of the NJ Coalition for Sustainable Energy Future (NJSEF.) AJC had a strong impact on the group which was formed to give a broad response to the New Jersey Energy Master Plan. In 2009, AJC nominated Adam Zellner, the architect of the New Jersey Energy Master Plan, to participate in a Project Interchange trip to Israel for an energy seminar.
AJC New Jersey also nominated NJ Assemblyman Upendra Chivukula to participate in a Project Interchange trip to Israel for energy specialists—following which the Assemblyman invited AJC New Jersey to testify in Trenton about the NJ Energy Master Plan, on the need for electric vehicle charging stations on Garden State Parkway and Turnpike, and the need for a smart grid.
As part of our coalition building efforts, AJC New Jersey made a presentation before the NJ State Jewish Federation Association urging Federations to join NJSEF. We also launched a successful Green Spaces Campaign to promote energy efficient vehicles by providing businesses and Houses of Worship with a durable metal sign for each space in their parking lots which they reserve for fuel efficient vehicles.
A gift of $10,000 was given to the coalition to support our Energy Security programming efforts. AJC New Jersey has used this funding to host annual programs on Energy Security in both our Metro and Central regions including: film screenings, lectures and presentations.
AJC NJ Energy Task Force
In 2012, AJC New Jersey launched an Energy Task Force whose mandate is to plan and implement programming, advocacy, coalition work and media activity throughout NJ related to and promoting AJC’s energy security policies.
